For more than 40 years, the Brookline Education Foundation (BEF) has awarded grants to help our public school educators grow professionally, foster innovation and leadership, and share knowledge with their peers.
A planned gift to the BEF helps ensure the long term stability of our nonprofit organization, and ensure our continued ability to help maintain excellence in Brookline’s public schools. We are happy to work with you to identify programs and opportunities that might best represent the ways in which you’d like your gift to impact the BEF.
Green Apple Legacy Society
Green Apple Legacy Society honors friends who are securing the BEF’s future by including the BEF in their estate plans through a bequest, trust, or other legacy gifts. If you have included the BEF in your estate plans, we hope you will let us know. We would love the opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation through your membership in the Green Apple Legacy Society.

BEQUESTS THROUGH YOUR WILL OR TRUST
Adding a simple bequest to your will or trust is an easy way to contribute to the future success of the BEF. The bequest can be for a specific amount of money or a percentage of your estate. It can be made outright, or once family, friends, and other loved ones are cared for. In any case, the BEF will be the grateful steward of part of your life’s legacy.
Sample bequest language your estate planning attorney might include in your estate plan:
“I give to BROOKLINE EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC. (P.O. Box 470652, Brookline, MA 02447, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization with Federal Tax ID number: 04-2732712), or its successor, ___________________[include dollar amount or percentage of estate] as an unrestricted gift for its general charitable purposes.”
GIFTS OF RETIREMENT ASSETS
You can designate the BEF as the beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement assets such as 401(k) and 403(b) plans and the BEF will receive the funds upon your passing. . You can leave the entire balance to the BEF, or designate a specific portion.
If you are 70½ or older, you can make lifetime gifts to BEF directly from your IRA through a qualified charitable distribution.
GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES
Donate a paid up life insurance policy that you no longer need for your family and receive a current income tax deduction. If you designate the BEF as owner and irrevocable beneficiary of a fully paid life insurance policy, you may take a charitable income tax deduction for the policy’s terminal reserve value (approximately equal to its replacement value). Or, you might think about taking out a new policy benefiting the BEF and receive tax benefits with each premium paid.
When designating the BEF as the beneficiary of any type of gift, please use our official title and address: BROOKLINE EDUCATION FOUNDATION, 490 Heath Street, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467.
These are just a few of the options for making a planned gift. Please consult your lawyer or financial advisor to assist you in deciding which giving option is the most appropriate for your circumstances and wishes.
