CALL FOR IDEA LAB PROPOSALS 2019-20 OPENS ON OCTOBER 8, 2019

DEADLINE FOR IDEA LAB PROPOSALS IS NOVEMBER 7TH, 2019

Each year, the BEF has three separate grant opportunities for Teachers and other professionals working in Brookline Schools – Idea Lab, Teacher Grants and Collaborative Grants. Idea Lab grants are small grants of up to $1,000 that allow teachers to try an innovative approach to learning in their classrooms. Teacher grants (up to $2,500) are awarded to individuals and small groups to support professional development or personal development activities. Collaborative Grants are designed to promote cooperative efforts across disciplines, across grade levels, or among schools. This grant funds up to $20,000 per application and funds a variety of professional learning opportunities. Calls for proposals for both Teacher and Collaborative Grants are distributed in December. Brookline’s Office of Teaching and Learning offers workshops prior to the filing deadline for teachers who wish to apply. BEF Teacher and Collaborative Grants Committees, which consist of Brookline educators and BEF Board members, determine funding. Applicants are notified of decisions in late April. Grant awards are announced to the public at the BEF’s annual “Celebrating Teachers” event in May.

See the Grants Calendar for workshops, deadlines and other important dates.

Apply for Teacher Grants

BEF Teacher Grants are awarded to individual and small groups of teachers or administrators on the basis of short written proposals. Teacher grants award up to $2,500 for each individual and typically fund professional or personal development activities. They are not intended to provide curricular materials or fund classroom programs that the school department and PTOs support.

Apply for Collaborative Grants

BEF Collaborative Grants are designed to promote cooperative efforts across disciplines, across grade levels, and among schools. This category of grants enables the BEF to bring the core value of Collaborative Relationships to the forefront by promoting opportunities for professional teamwork and cooperative learning throughout Brookline. Collaborative Grants are funded up to $20,000 per grant. Applicants seeking funding for projects with budgets $8,000 or above are required to submit a Concept Paper to assess how well their proposal fits within the BEF grants program. If the application budget is under $8,000, the concept paper is optional but encouraged as it typically helps with the success of the grant.
