Each year, the BEF has three separate grant opportunities for Teachers and other professionals working in Brookline Schools – Idea Lab, Teacher Grants and Collaborative Grants. Idea Lab grants are small grants of up to $1,000 that allow teachers to try an innovative approach to learning in their classrooms. Teacher grants (up to $2,500) are awarded to individuals and small groups to support professional development or personal development activities. Collaborative Grants are designed to promote cooperative efforts across disciplines, across grade levels, or among schools. This grant funds up to $20,000 per application and funds a variety of professional learning opportunities. Calls for proposals for both Teacher and Collaborative Grants are distributed in December. Brookline’s Office of Teaching and Learning offers workshops prior to the filing deadline for teachers who wish to apply. BEF Teacher and Collaborative Grants Committees, which consist of Brookline educators and BEF Board members, determine funding. Applicants are notified of decisions in late April. Grant awards are announced to the public at the BEF’s annual “Celebrating Teachers” event in May.
