On October 24th and 25th, children’s book author, Lesa Cline-Ransome, visited four Brookline School Libraries. The author of award-winning Finding Langston, as well as Game Changers about Venus and Serena Williams, Satchell Paige, and Before She was Harriet gave presentations at Baker, Lincoln, Runkle, and Driscoll. She spoke about her early beginnings, what is involved in writing a children’s book, and how she began writing for children, as well as reading from a few of her books. Several of the Brookline schools librarians had seen her speak recently, and said that Ms. Cline-Ransome was “amazing!” This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn more about the process of being an author, and learn how to be one themselves.
This event is made possible by the Todd Saker Fund, which was established in memory of Todd Saker, a student at Baker School, by his parents, Wayne and Linda Saker. The author visits are intended to inspire a love of reading and writing in young people by introducing them to writing as an art and as a career choice.
