celebratingteachers Foundation Announces Gift to Schools

microscope

The Brookline Education Foundation has announced the presentation of a gift of science equipment to the Public Schools of Brookline in honor of the Foundation’s 25th anniversary. This equipment will greatly enhance science teaching and learning in all Brookline schools.

Each elementary school will receive a stereo microscope and books to support the curriculum for every second grade classroom as well as one microscope camera for use by the entire school.  Stereo microscopes provide magnified, three-dimensional views of visible objects. Microscope cameras can display magnified images of all types of objects to an entire class at once via a computer or TV monitor.

In addition, Brookline High School will receive a groundwater simulator. This simulator will provide visualization and hands-on experience of complex groundwater principles to be used in BHS chemistry, environmental science, science seminars, and physics classes.

Throughout the 2008-09 school year, the Foundation will be hosting parent breakfasts in each of the Brookline elementary schools during which Townwide Science Curriculum Coordinator Janet MacNeil will discuss the kindergarten through grade 2 science curriculum. The Brookline Education Foundation was honored to have Dr. Kennedy speak at the our annual "Learn Something New Every Day" event for Green Apple Society members on Sunday, October 5. Over 100 invited guests assembled at Wheelock College, to hear Dr. Kennedy share his insights about the state of America in 2008 and the presidential election.
