December 18 @ 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
The Brookline Education Foundation will host the culminating reading for the Metzger Encore Fellowship, a writing program for experienced educators. The fellowship brings together six teachers who previously participated in the Margaret Metzger Writing Fellowship (Tracy Bare, Alexa Cuff, Paul Epstein, Evan Mousseau, Wan Wang, and Jon Weinberger), guiding them to craft polished essays about their professional work in schools.
The December event will feature fellows reading 10-minute excerpts from their essays, sharing insights, challenges, and stories from the classroom. The audience will include second- and third-year teachers from across the district, who will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with these seasoned colleagues.
“The Encore Fellowship celebrates the power of teacher voices,” said John Andrews, English Curriculum Coordinator at Brookline High School and fellowship facilitator. “Our goal is to support educators as writers and mentors, and to amplify their reflections in both publications and live readings.”
The Metzger Encore Fellowship is funded through the generosity of the Brookline Education Foundation and inspired by the legacy of the late Margaret Metzger, a beloved BHS English teacher who championed teacher writing. By connecting experienced educators with newer teachers, the fellowship strengthens professional dialogue and builds a culture of reflection and storytelling across the district.
